I'm relaying this information from a neighbor on White Oak
...Sarah Tynes
Unfortunately we were victims of a home invasion last Thursday, January
26. My husband was at home alone with our 19-month old son while I was
teaching a night class. At about 8 p.m., someone rang our doorbell.
N was expecting a friend, so he answered the door (holding our
toddler). He was met with a gun, and the man walked 2 or so steps
inside the front door. The man told N "Don't say a word, don't say
a f**king word, and get down on the floor." N said that his first
instinct was to cooperate, but in a split second decision, grabbed the
man's wrist (gun hand) and lunged him out onto the porch, our son still
in his other arm. He was screaming at the top of his lungs, while
holding the man's wrist as tight as possible. Eventually, after 30-40
seconds of struggling, the man was able to pull loose and knock N
on the head with the butt of the gun (requiring a number of stitches),
and possibly on the shoulder where he has a large bruise. He then took
off running. Sometime during the struggle, N also noticed that
there was at least one and probably two other guys looking on from the
front yard of the house next door (unoccupied). We assume that the
intent was to assist in a robbery once N was tied up. Why, thank
goodness, they did not aid their buddy in the struggle, we don't know.
Amazingly, despite being in N's other arm during the entire
ordeal, our son is completely fine and was not hurt at all.
We are doing everything that we can to keep it together and not feel
nervous every minute that we are in our home. We have a large dog and a
security system, none of which helped us. N really wants everyone
to know that this guy could have easily shot him if he'd wanted to, and
that perhaps cooperating would have been the best thing. However,
parental instincts are very strong, and Nathan's immediate reaction,
right or wrong, was to get that guy away from his son.
Please be aware that we have recently learned of another similar home
invasion on January 10 on Glenwood Ave., by the new Glenwood Park
development. These guys basically tied a couple up and robbed them of
everything, including their cars. Details of this incident are on the

Thanks, and everyone please be careful and be aware! Do not answer your
door to ANYONE unless you definitely know them.
